The three-step V3 certification model with foundation, intermediate and advanced levels is based on a credit point system and leads to the new qualification of ITIL® V3 Expert. This new certification structure provides for targeted training and certification in ITIL® V3 with topics compiled on an individual basis. The current certification models are also appropriate for use in further personal development.
This provides an overall assurance that the current investment in certification under ITIL® is not jeopardized. There are in fact even attractive upgrade training courses available, the so-called ITIL® bridging qualifications.
Step 1: Foundation Level
The foundation level still forms the basis for the ITIL® training. The examination content is available with immediate effect – although initially only in English. The ITIL® foundation level enables the successful participant to gain 2 points.
Step 2: Intermediate Level
Within the framework of the next level of training - the intermediate level - provision is made for two parallel training routes. These probably equate approximately to the current service manager (lifecycle stream) or practitioner (capability stream).
The lifecycle stream is geared towards five new manuals. 3 points are awarded for each module. These five manuals are:
- ITIL® V3 Service Strategy
- ITIL® V3 Service Design
- ITIL® V3 Service Transition
- ITIL® V3 Service Operation
- ITIL® V3 Continual Service Improvement.
The intermediate level ends with an examination on the subject of “Managing across the lifecycle”, worth 5 points. The training deals with the contexts within the service lifecycle and consequently the amalgamation of the individual activities within the processes.
If a candidate achieves the 22 necessary points overall, he/she will be awarded the ITIL® V3 Expert certificate.
Step 3: Advanced Level
The advanced level (ITIL® V3 Master) previously only existed in the planning stage. The content will involve the candidate’s individual ability to apply the concepts of ITIL® V3 in practice and to use these in unfamiliar environments. |
